The Beauty of Rest
Posted on November 08 2020
For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. So, let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall. -Hebrews 4:10-11
Today’s Encouragement: Are you well rested? We can enter marathons of work, projects, and even emotional hardships. You may feel invincible at time and take on more than your body can handle. But remember that God made us in His image and we should rest just like He did. Firmly set aside a day or two after any intense period of work to replenish yourself.
The writer of Hebrews, in talking to the believers who are the new creation in Christ – he is writing to Christians who have accepted the Lord Jesus as saviour – he is talking to those who have been born again and in so doing have entered into Christ - have become a part of His body and have entered into the rest of Jesus.
Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father – resting from His work on the cross. And all that are in Christ are seated with Him in heavenly places – all that are in Christ can also enter into His rest, by faith – by simply resting on His word – by simply standing on the promises of God.
We have entered into Christ and Christ Jesus is our rest. We who have entered into the body of Christ have entered God’s rest - for the Lord Jesus Christ is the rest for the people of God – and while we are still living in this world in our bodies, our rest is in Him – we rest in His word and we rest in His promises.
Prayer: Loving Father thank you that Christ Jesus is my rest. I pray that day by day I may rest in You, by trusting my life into Your hands and trusting Your word of truth in my life, in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.
Reflection: How do you spend time with Christ during your rest days?
