Then Jesus said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own” Luke 12:15
Today’s Encouragement: Greed is an inappropriate attitude toward things of value, built on the mistaken judgment that a person’s well-being is tied to the sum of his/ her possessions. Greed is more than mistaken belief—as if knowing a few more facts would somehow solve the problem. It also involves longing, unfulfillment or fear and a sense of entitlement or rivalry. Greed alienates us from God, from our neighbor, and from our true self. It is so difficult to identify in ourselves yet so easy to call out in others.
This verse is most powerful when we apply it to our own selves. When you feel an impulsive thought to take advantage of a situation for your gain, take a moment. Think through your actions thoroughly and look at who loses with your gain. Remember to create a life that feels good on the inside, not one that just looks good on the outside.
Prayer: Lord, open my eyes and allow me to see your miracles in my life. Allow your Love to flow through me. Give me guidance, understanding, & control so that all my decisions are done with a clear mind. Glory be in your name. Amen.
Reflection: Will your actions bring you closer to God or further away from depending on Him?
