Fix Your Thoughts
Posted on September 07 2020
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. -Philippians 4:8
Today Encouragement: Our culture is obsessed with bad news, worst-case-scenarios, and knows that fear sells. God knows that when our minds are continuously inundated with stories of evil and harm we suffer. When anxious thoughts start to flood our mind or when we are tempted to sin - our immediate reaction should be to look to Jesus and to remember who we are in Christ. But too often we allow anxious thoughts to drag us down into deep despair... but controlling our mind is a conscious choice. Controlling our thoughts is a deliberate decision of our self-will.
The Bible gives us practical advice on how to guard against anxiety. We are instructed to fix our thoughts on what is lovely, praiseworthy, right, pure, and true. Let us choose to focus our mind on that which is right and pure, lovely and of good repute, for all these attributes are the fruit of the Spirit and point us to Christ. Who alone is good and true; honorable and pure - righteous and virtuous and praiseworthy.
Make a list of things you are thankful for, the things that you can give God praise for, and take time to read his true word. These simple steps are a powerful help in giving you peace of mind.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for all You have provided and blessed me with. I pray for wisdom and strength to focus on what is good and stay thankful. In Jesus Christ Name I pray. Amen.
Reflection: What are you thankful for today?
